There are two great biblical doctrines that must be defended against the gainsayers – that of Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) and creation. The Scripture affirms that the heavens declare the glory of God, that by the word of the Lord, the vast heavenly host came into existence, that the creation manifests God’s invisible attributes, eternal power and divine nature, and that man was endowed with great dignity being endowed with God’s very image and made a little lower than God.
For centuries the Christian church generally did not question the Genesis account of creation as being an accurate accounting of God’s creative activity. However, with the rise of Darwinism in the 19th Century, the biblical doctrine of creation came under great attack. How are we to understand the relationship of science to Scripture? Sadly, there are some pastors, organizations, and seminaries that want to re-interpret the Bible in light of the supposed factuality of Darwinism. They argue that the archaic views of the past must yield to the facts of science.
Is evolution a proven fact? Why do men want to capitulate to the findings of modern science? Is science an accurate filter through which we must interpret the Bible? Some today think so. They are called theistic evolutionists who want to wed the theory of evolution with the biblical account of creation. They think the Genesis account was never intended to be taken in the plain meaning of its words. They think there is no problem with maintaining a view that man evolved from lower life forms over millions of years. They think the gospel cannot be threatened by such views.
Pastor Otis examines the basic tenets of Darwinism, demonstrating its absurdity. He analyzes the various views of these theistic evolutionists, showing where they have compromised the precious doctrine of Sola Scriptura and where they are leading the visible church to a dangerous realm where the gospel is jeopardized. Theistic evolutionists are a menace to the Lord’s church and must be silenced.

As I was reading this book I couldn’t help but think of all those books written for ‘Dummies.’ Well, I’m one of them, are you? Even as a Seminary student 60 years ago I wasn’t bright enough to understand some of these new theories about creation. So, Dummy that I was, I stuck to the Westminster Shorter Catechism which says “They Gwork of creation is, God’s making all things of nothing, by the word of his power, in the space of six days, and all very good.” And now, after 60 years as a pastor, I’ve come to the conclusion that God tells us what really happened in the first six calendar days of earth-history, and tells us in words designed to enable ‘Dummies’ like me to know the truth. As the great Westminster Confession says “All things in Scripture are not alike plain in themselves, nor alike clear unto all; yet those things which are necessary to be known, believed, and observed for salvation, are so clearly propounded, and opened in some place of Scripture or other, that not only the learned, but the unlearned, in a due use of the ordinary means, may attain unto a sufficient understanding of them.” Most of the people I’ve served as a pastor have also been dummies, they too have simply continued to believe that the Westminster Assembly got it right in the first place. If you would like to see why it is the only view consistent with the rest of the Bible, and why these clever ‘too hard to ever understand’ theories are wrong, get this excellent book and read it. It was written for ‘Dummies’ like you and me. This book is the best statement that I have thus-far seen of the truth–the ‘truth’ being that compromise on the simple, clear teaching of the early chapters of Genesis as historical is indeed sinful.

With great respect for the former Children’s Catechism that has been used for over 160 years, we first used this but found that it was more suited for a knowledgeable Christian public rather than the circumstances we find ourselves in today in most any country around the world. Therefore, building upon the worthy foundation laid in the original Children’s Catechism, we expanded on many of the points it simply highlighted, but adding additional questions and some additional subject areas. This book built upon the foundation of the original Children’s Catechism and used many of its questions. Ideas were borrowed from a large number of other catechisms which have been used privately or publicly over the years. No one person wrote this catechism. It was the collective effort of many theologians, missionaries and pastors from around the world.
Geoffrey Donnan
(November 5, 1943 – September 3, 2017)
Rev. Geoffrey Donnan was the founder of what is now called Reformation Christian Ministries. It was originally begun in 1979 in Suriname, South America and was called Caribbean Christian Ministries. At that time, the ministry was founded under the oversight of their home church and has always remained under church oversight since then. He was married to Nancy Donnan in 1968 and has two living children, Kimarie Anne Card (nee Donnan) and Jason Donnan.
The Lord of Glory: The Transforming Presence of Jesus Christ

When the glory of Christ and His work grows dim and the practical religion of union and communion with Him loses its centrality in His church, compromise stalks on every front. If we have not been with Jesus, walked with him and heard his living voice, our witness in the world will be flat and lifeless. Holding fast to him as our life and light will make us steadfast in defending his truth, winsome in our witness, and loving in our service. To each generation, our Savior’s call comes: “Abide in me. Continue in my word. Then, you will be my disciples.” The secret of Christian influence, a joyful Christian walk, and power to overcome the world, is to be much in the fellowship of Jesus Christ. He is the Lord of glory, and he will transform us by his life-giving Spirit.

A life long Georgia resident, Chris married his wife, Elizabeth, in 1991 and in 1994 began preaching and pastoring at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Buford, GA. Chris and Elizabeth have been blessed with 5 children and one grandson. With two little boys still at home, Chris is often found biking, exploring for trains, and building all sorts of block creations. Chris continues to preach, write, and pastor at Covenant Presbyterian.
Kingdom, Church and Eschatology
A seminar conducted the week of January 4-8, 2010 as credit for ministerial students in Christ Theological Seminary, which is associated with the Reformed Presbyterian Church in the United States (RPCUS). Anyone interested in the subject was permitted to attend the seminar lectures for free.
Pastor John M. Otis was the instructor for the 28 hours of lecture. The course was designed to give exegetical proof for the postmillennial view of Eschatology. The church is not seen as some parenthesis in biblical history, but having existence since the creation of man. In contrast to Dispensationalism, there are not two distinct peoples in God’s plan, but only one people, the church. The Church of Jesus Christ is the spiritual seed of Abraham and possesses all the promises of the Abrahamic Covenant. They do not belong exclusively to national Israel as Dispensationalism insists. The Kingdom of God is not something that comes after Christ’s physical Second Coming. The Kingdom of God is internal, and is associated with the millenium. The millenium is not after the Second Coming; it is before. We are presently in the millenium, and the church is the divinely appointed agent that the reigning King Jesus uses to fulfill His mediatorial reign on earth. Jesus is presently reigning! We are presently in the millenial age. There will be victory in history of the spread of the gospel before the Second Coming. The Great Commission will be fulfilled. The Second Coming, the bodily resurrection, and the Last Day of Judgment are coterminous events, meaning they occur together, not separated by a millenium.
